Explanation / Answer

First: Let X represent the number of students in each classwith 2X being the number in the first grade: Grade:    1    2    3 4   5   6 Number of students:       2X   X   X   X X X   =   7X total students Number of students in 3rd grade: X Probability = (Number of students in 3rd grade)/(Total students) =X/7X = 1/7 The probability that this student is female is about 1/2. The probability that this student is both female and in the 3rdgrade is: 1/7 * 1/2 = 1/14 Hope this helps!
