Question

9.   Refer to Example 2.12 in Lesson2, Best Way to Determine Heart Rate. What type of variableis found in this example (categorical, measurement-discrete, ormeasurement-continuous)? Explain your choice.

Example 2.12. Best Way to Determine HeartRate

Consider an experiment where heart rate (heart beats/minute) ismeasured by three

different methods. Let’s consider three different methodsto determine heart rate.

Method 1: Count heart beats for 6 seconds &multiple by 10 to get heart beats/minute

Method 2: Count heart beats for 30 seconds& multiply by 2 to get heart beats/minute

2-12

Method 3: Count heart beats for 60 seconds

I tried this experiment on myself. I obtained six measurementsfor each of the three

methods. These results are found in Table 2.3.

Table 2.3. My Results from the Heart RateExperiment

Method          six results       heartrate       min/max heartrate    averageheartrate           1         7,7,7,7,7,7      70,70,70,70,70,70      70,70                                    70

2      36,35,37,38,37,37         72,70,74,76,74,74      70,76                          73

Explanation / Answer

(categorical, measurement-discrete, ormeasurement-continuous) According to the given data the Heart rate is a continousvariable Therfore here the measurement is continous By using this data we can do the Anova one way.
