Question
Hello, My question is as follows: A sample of 400 people were given a taste of twoproducts A and B. Assuming no preference for the two products, whatis the probability that 210 or more pick brand A? (I was thinking, possibly the fact that 210 people account for52.5% of the sample, maybe it has some significance, or maybe thefact that each person has two options.) Ok this is a binomial problem. First it is good to identify the following items: 1) How many trial are there ---------------N 2) What is a success----------------------- 3) What is the probabilty of success-------- Once you have done this, you just need to enter theinformation into the following equation and solve: P = N! / ! (N-)! ()^ (1-)^N- Example Problem: 10 people drive to the end of the road. They can chooseto turn right or turn left. What is the probability that 6 of the 10 will turnright? N=10 trials =6 right turns =1/2, 0.5 or 50% P = 10! / 6! (10-6)! (0.5)^6 (0.5)^(10-6) The answer to the example problemis: P = (10 * 9 * 8 * 7) / (4 * 3 * 2* 1) (0.015625) (0.0625) = 0.0205078 ˜ 2.1% Hope that helps.Related Questions
