Question

It has been reported that employment interviewers spend moretime talking to applicants who are hired than to applicants who arerejected. To determine wheter this is true for college studentsseeking summer employment through a university placement center, anexperimenter posing as an applicant accompanied a random sample ofreferees to their job interviews. A record of the duraion(inminutes) and out come of N-49 interviews was kept. the dataare Hired Rejected 30 23 19 17 21 24 18 18 24 26 22 19 25 27 13 22 29 24 15 15 24 22 18 19 23 25 17 17 24 26 20 20 28 23 18 18 25 24 19 17 24 27 23 19 26 12 25 25 18
1.)The dependent variable is the ordinal scale. 2). Percentile For Hired:p25=24, p50=24.5,p75=26. For Rejected:p25=17, p50=18.5,p75=19. For Hired,IQR =2.For Rejected,IQR =2 3)z-socres For the Hired Z=2.43. For the rejected Z=0.38. From the above z scores, we can say that the time taken toreject the college students is more than the time takento hire than college students. 4)Class width = range / No. of class intervals =18/5=3.6 (increase to 4)
The size of each interval is 4.
For Hired Employees Mean =24.731, Median= 24, Mode=24 ,Range==11 Sum of Squares= 16041, Variance=5.565 StandardDeviation=2.3590 For rejected Employees Mean =18, Median=19, Mode=18 Range=11, Sum of Squares =5716,Variance=6.9091StandardDeviation=2.6285
Looking back at all of the descriptiv, how would youcharacterized the "Hired" versus "Rejected" distrubtions? Which group, overall, received longer interview times? Explain the rationale of your anwer and be specific. It has been reported that employment interviewers spend moretime talking to applicants who are hired than to applicants who arerejected. Explanation / Answer

From the descriptive statistics, calculated above, the mean =24.73=median=24=mode=24. So, we can say that the distribution isalmost symmetric. Here, the small value 0.73 can beneglected. Similarly, for rejected we can say the distribution is rouglysymmetric. Hence, we can conclude that the distribution is approximatelynormal. By observing the mean times for two groups, we can say themean time for hired is 24.73 is higher compared to the mean timefor rejected. So, based on the descriptive statistics The Hiredgroup is receiving longer interview times. By observing all the descriptive statistics calculated abovewe can be more specific.
