Question

Bryce Canyon National Park (Shown on page 439) is in dry southern Utah. It is carved into eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. Erosion has sculpted the colorful limestone into bizarre shapes, including spires called "hoodoos." As you and a companion ( who has not studied geology) are viewing the scenery in Bryce Canyon, your friend says "Its amazing how wind has created this incredible scenery!!" Now that you have studied arid landscapes with Dalman, how would you respond to your companion's statement?

Explanation / Answer

rocks with spirs and fins in the Bryce canyon are known as hoodoos, destructive ability of water is the main agent that has played in this region than the wind action and these hoodoos are formed in thousands of years. major factors that has shaped Bryce canyon are ice, water and gravity.these three forces combined to form a different morphology formed than any other area. soil in these canyon is dry so only the top soil absorb the water during rain and it causes a flash flood, and it carries rock fragments and debris which hit with the canyon walls and make the erosion fast. action of wind is very less when compares to the marks of action of water in the Bryce canyon national park.
