Question

Use the data from the chocolate bar study to answer the following questions. Use SPSS for all calculations. Copy and paste the SPSS output into the word document as well as typing the appropriate symbol with the answer. 1. Identify the level of measurement used in this study. 2. Create a frequency table with six classes. 3. Create a histogram based on the Frequency table in problem 2. 4. Find the mean, median, and mode of the number of chocolate bars consumed by 16-year-old girls in a month. 5. Find the variance and standard deviation of the number of chocolate bars consumed by 16-year-old girls in a month.

I asked my instructor what she meant by "type the appropriate symbol with the answer." She replied to my question with this: "Make sure you have symbols for measures of center and measures of spread (in questions 4 & 5). If they are in the SPSS output, that's fine."

What does her reply mean? Because SPSS does all the work for me regarding questions 4 & 5 above, so what does my instructor mean by symbols for measures of center and measures of spread??...what does she expect it to look like...

Explanation / Answer

X - number of chocolate bars consumed by 16-year-old girls in a month

unit of mean, median, and mode is same as unit of Variable (X) here

unit can be chocolate bars ,

say mean = 50 chocolate bars

5)variance have units square of that of X

unit of variance =(chocolate bars )^2

hence

variance can be = 100 (chocolate bars )^2

unit of standard deviation is same as unit of variable = (chocolate bars )

hence say

sd = 25 (chocolate bars )
