Question

Select a topic with science--avoid a philosophical, historical, ethical or artistic topic as these will not enable you to get at the science. A discussion of technology that includes the scientific underpinnings may be acceptable, but I will need to confirm it.

Please give me 5or 6 ideas, in order of preference, so that we can get a topic confirmed before you leave for break. Also, if you think it is useful for me, provide a very brief description or rationale for your selections--this helps me to know how you are approaching the topic.

This must be finalized BEFORE you leave for break, so if you wish to submit early that would be fine.

Explanation / Answer

The topics I would prefer includes,

Ecology- ecosystems and their transitions with changing environment

Geology- Dynamic layers of the earth and significance of each layer in making the planet inhabitable

Climatology- Pattern of global climate change and various feedback loops of environmental components

Energy resources- Changes in the pattern of use of different energy resources with the advancement of technology

Remote sensing and GIS- Satellite image processing techniques for applications in various fields
