Question

Find the p-value for each of these situations. Be sure to take into account whether the test is left sided, right sided, or two sided.

Note that when testing the value of a single population mean (rather than a difference in means), degrees of freedom are df = n - 1.

Round all answers to three decimal places

a. H0: 1 - 2 = 0
    HA: 1 - 2 > 0
    df = 26
    t-statistic = 2.22

p-value = ?

I need a step by step instruction on how to do this problem all the way through with a ti-84 plus calculator. I cannot use a ztable or anything else on our test but thats the only way my teacher actually teaches us so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Explanation / Answer

Right Tailed t-test:
1) Calculate t_calc (t_test)
2) 2nd DISTR
3) Scroll down to tcdf(
4) ENTER
5) Now enter: t_calc, 1000, df)
6) ENTER
7) Output is the P-value

here p value is 0.01767332

note for left tail

Left Tailed t-test:
1) Calculate t_calc (t_test)
2) 2nd DISTR
3) Scroll down to tcdf(
4) ENTER
5) Now enter: -1000, t_calc, df)
6) ENTER
7) Output is the P-value
