Question
I'm having trouble figuring out part b of this 2 part question, which asks if a community has 1000 old couples what is the probability that at least 200 old couples are hypertensive. Any help would be appreciated 10. (13pts) Assume the probability of a 60-70 year old ann being classified as classified as hypertensive is 5% and the probability of a 60-70 year old woman being classified old couple as a group of a 60-70 year old man and a 60-7O year old at least one of the two members woman. An old couple are hypertensive. Assum couple are independent random variables. is classified as hypertensive if e that the hypertensive status of different members of as ets hat is the probability that an old couple is hypertensive? (6pte) Ep 05 (10-70m) P=o.i5/10-70F ) (a) W 1- F(I- o.os)1- PLI-o.15) 1- 0.1025x I-0.7225 (b) Suppose a community has 1000 old couples living in it. What is the probability that at least 200 old couples are hypertensive? (7pts) 2.7 0.913 P(x 200) P(Y 200-0.5) 195 Ply-np199.5-27 25 : 33.S 5133Explanation / Answer
A) Probability that a couple is hypertensive =1-P( none of them is hypertensive) =1-(1-0.05)*(1-0.15)=0.1925
b)
here mean of hypertensive couple among 100 couples =np=1000*0.1925=192.5
and std deviaiton =(np(1-p))1/2 =12.4677
hence probability that at least 200 couples are hypertensive =P(X>200)=1-P(X<=200)
=1-P(Z<(200.5-192.5)/12.4677)=1-P(Z<0.6417)=1-0.7395 =0.2605
