a) probability a randomly chosen item is labeled negative =P(negative) =P(item is defective and labeled negative+item is not defective and labeled negative) =P(D)*P(negative|D)+P(Dc)*P(negative|Dc)

=0.1*0.9+(1-0.1)*0.05=0.135

b) probability that the item is defective given  item is labeled negative =P(D|Negative)

==P(item is defective and labeled negative)/P(negative) =P(D)*P(negative|D)/P(negative) =0.1*0.9/0.135=0.6667

c) as P(D|Negative) is not equal to P(D) ; therefore events are not independent.
