Question

One significant consequence of climate change is the increase of extreme weather events in many areas of the world. Such events may be attributed to human-induced global warming. States located in South Central US, such as Oklahoma, are particularly vulnerable to extreme weathers due to their specific locations. Write a short essay stating at least four kinds of extreme weathers we may experience in the state of Oklahoma, and tell how each of the extreme weather events may affect geomorphic processes and landforms, limit your answer to (2 pages ) (for example: extreme rain event, cause flood, and change/affect all the fluvial landforms).

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER- Oklahoma is a place where there are extreme weather events seen but the contribution is mainly from natural conditions existed due to geographic location.Moisture flows into state's atmosphere from Gulf of Mexico to the south, drier air drifts into its borders from the rocky mountains and the mexican plateau to the west that heats it up during spring and summer, and the occasional blast of cold polar air from Canada;all these contributes to its extreme climatic condition .The policymakers of Oklahoma are not able to do much as severe natural disasters hit Oklahoma year after year.So the best solution is to make ways to educate the people through awareness programs and prehand rescue operations.Four suchexterme vents are as follows-

1. Tornadoes-Deadly tornadoes have shakened the place killing dozens of people, property loss and expenditure of billion dollar operations post such event.

2.Extreme winter and summer are suffered.

3. Drought-during the period 2010 to mid-2015 ,most of the Oklahoma was in drought;rivers barely flowing ,lakes dried up and waterfalls rarely puddles.

4. Flash flood events-During summer Oklahoma suffers flooding events. The month of May brought on severe weather.During 2010-2015,may flooding cost 28 lives, whereby in just 24 hours ,7.66 inches of rain reached the town.
