Test: Test 5 - Chapter 7 Time Remaining: 01:29:33 Submit Test This Question: 1 pt This Test: 13 pts possible Using the simple random sample of weights of women from a data set, we obtain these sample statistics n-35 and x - 145.48 b Research from other sources suggests that the population of weights of women has a standard deviation given by ? 31.42 lb a. Find the best point estimate of the mean weight of all women. b. Find a 90% confidence interval estimate of the mean weight of all women rmal distribution table. a.The best point estimate is[]b. (Type an integer or a decimal.) b, The 90% (Round to two decimal places as needed) OType here to 2 3Explanation / Answer
We have the following values-
Sample size, n = 35
Sample Mean, x = 145.48
Population SD,? = 31.42
a) Point Estimate - The best estimate of the population mean is the sample mean x
Here the value of the best point estimate is 145.48
b) We need to find CI for the population mean, ?
? = x +- Z*?/sqrt(n)
Where Z is the value from normal distribution for 90% CI and is given by Z = 1.65
? = 145.48 +- 1.65*31.42/sqrt(35)
= 145.48 +- 8.76
= (136.72, 154.24)
