Describe how Earth Science and Astronomy are related or interconnected and how they are used together in the "real world." Include very specific examples from topics covered in the course as well as think of some "real world" applications including technology and instrumentation. Pick at least two specific concepts/topics/examples and go into detail using terms and information learned in the course. How are these sciences related? How do they feed off each other? How has the use of technology or instrumentation in one science, inspired technology/instrumentation in the other? How are these sciences related to your daily life?

Answer:

Astronomy is the study of celestial bodies (natural bodies outside the Earth's atmosphere) and phenomena. Whereas, Earth Science deals with the study of the Earth as a planet and includes the study of constituting materials that made the Earth up, its atmosphere and the surface processes that operate. Now, Astronomy also involves Planetary Science of which, Earth Science is a major part. Planetary Geology deals with the geology of all the planets and other celestial bodies, the study of all the materials constituting the earth and surface processes that operate. For example, before advanced seismic study technologies had been developed, we can interpret about the earth's composition by studying the composition of meteorites. From that, we can compare the composition of Earth to other planets and celestial bodies.

Remote sensing technology is highly applied in Astronomical science. Satellite images are taken from space stations. Satellite images of Mars, Moon-all we can get easily now, just because of improvements in technology. From those well-developed images, geologists can study the geology of other planets, moons etc. So, applications of highly-developed technology in one case contribute largely to the other in understanding the processes of formation in other planets.
