Question

Question 6: A chemist obtains a linear regression line material remaining in a 1000-gram sample for a week as follows: and residual graphs of the amount of radioactive rob ie Day Day ake an educated guess for the value of the correlation coefficient (r) between weight of radioactive material remaining and day in the first figure. Explain your answer a) M briefly. /5 points Looking at the residual plot, can you say the linear regression line is appropriate for the model? Explain your answer briefly. /5 points b)

Explanation / Answer

a::: Since data falls along a line that is parallel to Y=-X, therefore here correlation coefficient must be - 1.Also that on increasing X we see decrease in Y along Y=-X.

b::::: Since residual plot has expectation zero in residuals, also that the model seems to be fitting very clear , and there is no assumption in linear regression that may be harmed by this form of residual plot, therefore linear regression is appropriate for the model.
