Question
Question 6 (4 points) A study of the students taking distance learning courses at a university finds that they are mostly older students not living in the university town. Choose a distance learning student at random, Let A be the event that the student is 25 years old or older and B the event that the student is local The study finds that P(A)-0.7, P(B)-0.25, and P(A and B) 0.05 Find the following probabilities A What is the probability that a randomly selected student is local and less than 25 years old? (Give your answer in the first box) B. What is the conditional probability that a student is not local, given that he or she is less than 25 years old? (Give your answer in the second box)Explanation / Answer
Probability that a student is local and less than 25 years old is
P(B)-P(A and B ) = 0.25-0.05 = 0.20
Probability that a student is not local given that he is less than 25 is
Probability that student is less than 25 and non local is given by 1-0.7-0.2=0.1
Conditional probability is given by 0.1/0.2=0.5
2. The top 10% weight more babies is given by z = (x - mean)/ standard deviation
X = 1.645*550 + 3250 = 4154.75
The baby should weight 4154.75 to be in top 10% weight
