An environmental researcher took soil samples and recorded the salinity levels at two different sites At the first site, he found a sample mean of 57.2, and a sample standard deviation of 7.3, At the second site, he found a sample mean of 98 6, and a sample standard deviation of 18.5. Answer the following questions, using i-scores (a) Should a salinity level of 65 at the first site be considered relatively smaller or larger than a level of 112 at the second site? (b) What salinity level at the first site is comparable to a level of 75 at the second site?

(a) Z - score of first salinity site = (65 - 57.2)/7.3 = 1.0685

Z - score at second salinity site = (112 - 98.6)/18.5 = 0.7243

so, salinity level of 65 site is more than the salinity level of second site.

(b) for second site Z score for salinity level of 75

Z = (75 - 112)/18.5 = -2

so here the same salinity level = 57.2 - 2 * 7.3 = 42.6
