Question

Please show how to solve step by step

A. The owner of a football team claims that the average attendance at games is over 819, and he is therefore justified in moving the team to a city with a larger stadium. Assuming that a hypothesis test of the claim has been conducted and that the conclusion is failure to reject the null hypothesis, state the conclusion in nontechnical terms. There is not sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean attendance is less than 819 There is not sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean attendance is greater than 819. There is sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean attendance is less than 819. There is sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean attendance is greater than than 819. B. With 95% confidence interval and n-10. Find left critical value for Zinterval. -2.262 -1.833 -1.645

Explanation / Answer

Answer :

(a) Second option from above.

As in this case claim has been made that the average attendence is greater than 819. Thus this is the null hypothesis that average attendence is 819, but hypothesis test results in its failure thus it has been rejected hence there is not much evidence to support that the average attendence is greater than 819.

Hence the second option is correct.

(b) -1.96

First subtract the confidence value from 100% : 100-95 = 5% = 0.05

Divide the value obtaine by 2 : 0.05/2 = 0.025

for left critical value find the value of Z from table that contains 0.025 area under it : ans this comes out to be -1.96
