(A) two protons (B) two electrons (C) an electron and a neutron (D) an electron and a proton. 5. Hydrogen bonding (A) occurs as a result of the attraction of polar molecules (B) exists only between water molecules (C) explains why water has sucha low heat capacity (D) none of thesce 6. In a sugar water solution, sugar is considered the (A) sediment (B) solute (C) solvent (D) all of these. The higher the percentage of salt in seawater (A) the more dense the water (D) all of these. 7· the erater the buoyancy of water (C) the lower the freezing point of water 8. _ in which layer of the atmosphere does most of the weather we experience occur? (A) troposphere (B) stratosphere (C) ionosphere (D) none of these Which of the following air masses would have the highest air pressure? (A) a warm, humid air mass (B) a warm, dry air mass (C) a cold, humid air mass (D) a cold, dry air mass 9, 2741 (over) 85Explanation / Answer
1.
As per the definition of a mineral, they are inorganic compounds having fixed chemical composition now if we see the options we find that gold have a fixed chemical composition and structure and so does the salt NaCl therefore gold and salt are minerals while copper and carbon are atoms so they don’t have a structure therefore they can’t be classified as a mineral while quarts and mica also have fixed chemical composition and have a definite structure therefore they are also examples of minerals so options (A) and (C) are correct.
2.
Molecule is referred to as the smallest unit of material which have an individual existence and in which the many atoms are bounded together as per this definition of molecules we can have all the options as molecules and therefore option (E) is correct.
3.
In a compound we have atoms of two or more than two atoms chemically bonded with each and hence as per this definition of a compound we can say that O2 cannot be classified as a compound and hence option (C) is the answer as it is not correct.
4.
We know that opposite charges attract each other while the similar charges repel each other apart from this a proton is a positive charge entity while an electron is a negatively charged entity while neutrons don’t have any charge. Therefore two protons can’t attract towards each other and so does two electrons as they both are same in charge. While an electron and a neutron also don’t attract as neutron is neutral while an electron and a proton have opposite charge and hence they will attract towards each other therefore (D) is correct.
