The water carries the grain to the end of the river where it meets the ocean at an average rate of 15 feet per minute. If it takes the grain of sand 7 hours and 17 minutes to travel from the beginning of the river to the end of the river, how many kilometers long is the river? Average rate of the river = 15 ft /min

Time taken to travel from the beginning of the river to the end of the river = 7 hours 17 minutes = ( 7 * 60 )+17 minutes

= 437 minutes

Length of the river = Average rate of the river * Time taken to travel from the beginning of the river to the end of the river

= 15 ft /min *  437 minutes

= 6555 ft

= 6555 * 0.0003048 km

= 1.998 km
