Question

Consider a tank used in certain hydrodynamic experiments. After one experiment the tank contains 288 liters of a dye

solution with a concentration of 5 g/liter. To prepare for the next experiment, the tank is to be rinsed with fresh

water

flowing in at a rate of 6 liters/min, the well-stirred solution flowing out at the same rate.

Find the time (t1) that will elapse before the concentration of dye in the tank reaches  8% of its original value.

Round your answer to two decimal places.

(t1) = ?????

Explanation / Answer

Assuming the mixing of water and dye is instantanious

and input flow rate = out flow rate

thus volume of tank remains same throughout

final concentration of dye in tank = 8% of 5 g/l = 0.4 g/l
