Question
on Figure 1, explain why the total and per capita ecological footprints of e USA are so different from one another Do not discuss population China and th density Total Ecological Footprint (milion hectares) and Share of Global Ecological Capacity (%) Por Capita Ecological Footprint (hectares per person) 0 7 United States Unsted Sates 9 33 2810(23%) A 7 European Union 7160 (10%) Chin 10 2060 ( 18%) Ch ind-E03 780 (7%) Japan na 08 540 (5%) Japan Figure 1 Ecological footpnints for a few countnes (Miller, 2007) Note the size of the population of China and the USA is 1338 and 309 million people respectively The area of China and the USA is 957 3 and 962 9 millon hectares respectivelyExplanation / Answer
The per capita ecological footprints of United States is comparatively very high as compared to the ecological footprints of United States this is because USA being a developed nation and the citizens of US are very economically stable and have a very high living standard which requires more resources of the nature and since the buying capacity of US citizens are very high due to high per capita income therefore they can have accessibility of these natural resources while for China which a developing country don’t have that much per capita income and hence the citizens don’t have that much money to access those resources and therefore the per capita ecological footprints of China is low as compared to that of US.
But if we compare the total ecological footprints of US and China we’ll see the difference is not that much this is because of very high population of China (Highest in the world) which when multipled by low Per capita footprints of China makes value very high and hence comparable to the total ecological footprints of US which have low comparative population when compared to China.
