please answer both questions in full detail/full responses:

1. do some research on the most recent ice age. do you live in an area that was formely coverd by ice?(i live in new york- westchester area). If so, how thick was the ice? is there any evidence in the landforms around you to indicate that the area was formely glaciated?

2. many glaciers in locations around the world have been retreating at a rapid rate for the past few decades. why? is the retreat caused by natrual or anthropogenic processes? choose one glacier and investigate its current status; find out whether the glacier is advancing or retreating and how quickly.

Explanation / Answer

1) Yeah,I live in an area which was covered by ice several millions of years ago,Infact this place was a part of Gondwana land and there was glaciation event in the late Paleozoic.One can easily find glacial boulders close to river basins,Polished basement surface also indicates glacial movement.Other glacial trails are :-roiche moutonee structures,drumplines(piles of glacial sediments), glacial drifts and glacial keel marks ,which could be observed through remote sensing.

2) The cause of the glacial retreat is believed to be global warming.In the past few decades after 1910,the CO2 level has risen and greenhouse gases concentrations has also drastically increased in the atmosphere.This has led to global warming and progressive increase in the Temperature of the surface. The global warming is mostly natural and climate systems are quite insensitive to humanity's greenhouse gases emissions and aerosol pollution.For instance,glaciers of Himalayan region are on a great retreat for many decades and have experienced severe glacial losses.
