Question
Wilson Electronics produces a standard VCR and a delux VCR. The company has 2200 hours of labor and $18000 in operationg expenses avalable each week. It takes 8 hours to produce a standard VCR and 9 hours to produce a deluxe VCR. Each standard VCR costs $115, and each delux VCR coss $136. The company is required to produce at least 35 standard VCRs. The company makes a profit of $39 for each standard VCR and $26 for each delux VCR. How mny of each type of VCR should be produced to maximize profit?
Explanation / Answer
let x be the no f standard VCR produced
let y be the no of deluxe VCR produced
the objective function would be O: 39x + 26y
the constraints are
8x + 9y < = 2200
115x + 136 y <= 18000
x>=0, y>=0
solving algebraically
the corner points will be
(0,0), (275 ,0), (3600/23,0),(0,2200/9), (0,2250/17)
substituting the the corner points in the objective function
O(275,0) = 10725
O(3600/23,0) =6104.35
O(0,2200/9) =6355.56
O(0,2250/17) =3441.17
hence the maximum profit ocurs when 275 units of standard VCR are produced
