Captcha
A CAPTCHA is a computer program that presents certain algorithms and tests before accessing any website or online service so that only humans can have unihindered access instead of machines.

CAPTCHA is an acronym for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. It came into prominence recently at the beginning of the Twenty-first century because of the increased spread of automation in the world. Increased use of bots and spamming algorithms posed immense potential to disrupt the regular functioning of any website. For Example, in China, the online booking of Railway tickets were initially done in bulk by travel agents with the help of bots, thus denying common person the right to fair service. However, with the evolution of captcha, this malicious activity was greatly reduced due to its ability to differentiate between bots and humans. Also with improvement in technology, many of its stakeholders started misusing it. For example, corporate rivalries led to hiring of hackers and digital spys because they could easily clog the website of the rival company by DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. DDOS leads to overflooding of a website and ultimately crashing it by sending requests through various IPs with the help of bots. Captcha solved this problem to a certain extent by regulating the traffic and ensuring that only humans log onto the site. Recently a strong DDOS attack brought big websites like Twitter, Spotify, Soundcloud and many others to their knees by making them inaccessible to common users for more than a day.
Therefore the word CAPTCHA has become an intricate part of life. Access to manhy websites have to face this test. It annoys many users but has become a part of the society for its indispensable use in cyber space.
