Explanation / Answer
Answer b. Bari is a small horticultural group of people living in tropical rain forests of Venezuela, South America. Among these people, males are allowed to marry more than one women at a time but the women can marry only one man in her lifetime. Though some of the women in Bari have one or more lovers during their pregnancies. Their husbands are usually aware of it. When the women give birth to their child she typically name all her lovers during their pregnancies. These men were notified and the secondary husbands were need to fulfill certain obligations for the child. The most important wishes to be fulfilled were the fishing and game for the child which is considered critical for the survival of the child. This was a kind of insurance policy on the women's the husband like if the husband died, secondary fathers could take the responsibilities of the child. This multiple paternity was to ensure the survival and the well being of the child and not for the benefits of mother or her other child. So we learn from Bari people that in case of high infant mortality, having many fathers ensures a child's well being.
