Question
So I will try to explain better this time.
We got this Rack and gear system. Iniatily we have the rack in rest. The rack weigths is W=100 lb. The rack is then released from rest and problem asks to find the power it generates after it moves down 2 ft. Are givem the gear A moment of inertia Ia= 4 lb.s?.ft and Ib=7 lb.s?.ft. Notice the gear B is retained by a spiral spring that has K=10 ft.lb/rad.
So I have used energy method to find the velocity of the rack after falling 2 ft. considering that initialy it just had height energy and at the end we have kinect energy from the rack, rotation from the gear and spring energy that's give by K*(angle).
But now I don't know how top proceed in order to find the power generated by rack. Hope someone now can help me!
Explanation / Answer
Here you know initial velocity, final velocity and distance travelled From these u can find time t for the rack to come down 2 ft Now total output energy = energy of both gear = 1/2 I w^2 + K theta The w and theta are known So u find total output energy So output power = output energy/ time
