Question
Design an HVAC system for heating and cooling a five story office building with a floor area of 5500m^2. Each floor is divided into two zones, with a total core area of 3000m^2 and a total peripheral area of 2500m^2. The design ambient conditions are 35 degrees celcius dry bulb and 24 degress celcius wet bulb. The maximum occuancy is 275 people, with 175 in the core zone and 100 people in the peripheral zone. The equipment will be sized using the entire building load, assuming that the loads for each of the floors are similar. The design core zone and perimeter zone cooling loads are 160kW and 115kW, respectively, with sensible heat factor of 0.8. These loads exclude the ventilation load. The heat produced by office equipment and lights leads to negligible heating loads in the core zone, the peripheral zone heating load is 65kW for a design ambient temperature of -15 degrees celcius. These values are obtained assuming that the building is maintained at a temperature 24 degrees celcius and 50% relative humidity in the summer and 21 degress celcius and 40% relative humidity in the heating season. Estimate the ventilation loads, cooling coil capacity, air distribution ducts specification, fan power, primary cooling system specification of a packaged unit and heating system specifications. Assume reasonable valued for any missing data and consult charts/tables for any other information needed. If you can provide some side notes on what each step is that you do that would be good. Thanks everyone for the help.
Explanation / Answer
Seems good to me, except I wouldn't know how to handle the statement:
"and the peripheral zone heating load is 71 kW for a design ambient temperature of -13 ?C"
which doesn't seem to agree with all the other parameters given as:
"These values are obtained assuming that the building is maintained at a temperature of 24?C and 50% RH in the summer and 21?C and 40% RH in the heating season"
