Need Help
A thin-walled hollow tube made of a unidirectional composite lamina with all the fibers directed along the hoop direction is loaded with a combination of axial load, P and torque, T, as shown in the figure. The diameter, D = 10 cm and the wall thickness, t = 2 mm. A number of experiments are performed where different values of the load P are applied, and for each of them, the value of the torque T which induces failure in the tube is determined. The results are summarized in the following table: Which of the following failure theories agrees best with the experimental results? - Maximum Stress - Tsai-Hill - Tsai-Wu [Hint: Plot the failure envelopes predicted by each theory in a (sigma 2, tau 6) space, and overlay the experimental results, properly cast in terms of stresses].Explanation / Answer
from seeing the results and on constructing the predicted failure envelopes (sigma_2,tou_6) we can see that tsai-Hill agrees best with the results as deviation from expected is minimum in this case
