Most important thing is make sure you do it correctly.

A rigid bar ABC is pinned at end A and supported by two steel cables at points B and C. The cable at B has a diameter ds= 12 mm and the cable at C has a diameter dc = 20 mm. Determine the allowable load P if the temperature rises by 60degree C and each cable is required to have a factor of safety of at least 3 against its ultimate stress. The ultimate load of cable C is 231 kN and the ultimate load of cable B is 102 kN. 2.5 The structure shown is a pin-joint truss. All members have an area of 400 mm2 and a young's modulus of 200GPa. A vertical force of 15 KN is applied at point G. This force would normally cause the roller support at D to move horizontally. A horizontal force P is applied at D to prevent this movement, determine the magnitude of force P; how much D would have moved before applying the force P, by using Castiglione's second theorem.

Explanation / Answer

ere are the handouts. These are useful to have for students as they wait for class to start.
