Question

Scientific Revolution changed our comprehension of the Universe: There are no two separate domains, the imperfect Earthly and the perfect or divine, Heavenly domain. There is only one single physical Universe, and we can understand how it works. It works like a clockwork mechanism. The planets in the sky, just like the objects here on Earth, move following mathematical rules, the rules of physics, and we can calculate and predict the way they will behave. There is no more mystery...

Give me, more thoroughly, your opinion about the relationship of science and religion today. Can one "believe" in both? Do they exclude each other or not? Give me your opinions and thoughts, and support all of them with solid arguments and examples.

Explanation / Answer

Science has proved its credibility in understanding the mysteries of the universe to the point that we can understand and predict the movement of different planets, their compositions, their environment and even their potential to be created into Earth-like planets. However, it would be pushing it too far to say that there is no more mystery left since we are bound by distances that may outdo our life span, technology that is superior than before but still needs a lot of development and the problems in the general idea of survival that we have etched for ourselves.

With regards to the relationship between science and religion, I personally think that they should,in an ideal situation,be used as two strong tools. To understand this, lets see why we have religion and science in the first place? What is the need for science and religion in our lives?

Religion is mainly intended to create a sense of one-ness, comfort, moral value and harmonious living. It forms a strong foothold that can make us accountable for our actions and can make us care for the world we live in and also care for other living beings that we share this world with. Science is intended to understand why and how we were created, how we can develop to be better, intelligent beings and pass on the unique workings of the universe, our environments and even our bodies to our future generations. Having said that, using science without the moral values that religion was built for, will only lead us into despair. Science used for harm, will be no good. At the end of it all, what we draw from these two factors is what is crucial.

In a way, we all know that the ideal situation would be if we balanced both these subjects. Religion gives us faith and science teaches us to reason and then believe. With this explanation, I do believe that we can believe in both.
