Question

A nationwide survey was conducted in 2014 by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC). It asked individual participants to indicate their annual personal income for 2013. This is reflected in the table below. You are asked to use the data to answer the following questions.

Table 1. Distribution of Annual Personal Income, 2014 by Gender

1. Compute the percentage for each of the personal income categories by gender (note that the total should be used as your denominator). Create a table much like the one above using the percentages you computed.

2. Use the percentages you computed in Question 1 to create a bar chart for personal income distribution for men and women. In addition, for each bar chart, identify gender and label the percentage value for that specific bar.

3. Use table and the bar charts to identify which gender group has the higher personal income. In one or two sentences support your answer.

4. Use the percentages from Questions 1 and 2 to determine where the largest income difference is between men and women. [One or two sentences]

5. Use the percentages from Questions 1 and 2 to determine where the smallest income difference is between men and women. [One or two sentences]
