Question

A firm produces millimeters and stores them in a warehouse. They produce 350 multimeters every day, and they make a shipment from the warehouse to their suppliers at the end of each month. On the morning of March 2, there are 4687 multimeters in the warehouse. On the night of March 24 (after that day's production lot has been moved to the warehouse), there is a fire in the warehouse that destroys some of the multimeters. Once the fire is extinguished, the firm does an inventory and finds that there are 9125 remaining multimeters. How many multimeters were destroyed by the fire?

Explanation / Answer

4687 multimeters were present on morning on March 2.

And 350 are produced everyday.

Fire takes place on night of March 24. So number of multimeters present just before fire started are:

4687+350*(24-2+1)=4687+350*23=12737

Hence, number of multimeters destroyed are: 12737-9125=3612
