Question
The power required by an airplane is given by P = Fv, where P is the engine power, F is the thrust, and v is the plane speed. Which of the following planes has the most power? You must show your work to receive credit. Plane A: Thrust=2, 100 pounds-force Speed =220 meters per second Plane B: Thrust= 11,000 newtons Speed= 550 feet per second Click the icon to view the conversion table. Click the icon to view the table common derived units in the SI system. Specify the power for each plane in the same units (for example, in watts). (Round your answers to three significant digits.) Plane A: W Plane B: WExplanation / Answer
Here conversion formula for plane B is :
1 watt = 1Newton-meter/second
So As 1 feet = 0.3048 meter, so clearly
the plane B power = 11000 x 550 x 0.3048 newton-meter/second
= 1844040 Watts.
And conversion formulas for plane A is ;
1 pound force = 4.44822 newton
so power of plane A = 2100 x 4.44822 x 220 Watts.
=2055077.64
So clearly plane A has more power.
