Describe an everyday situation between variables that is not a function. Clearly explain why the relationship is not a function.

The length of hair of a person versus their age in days. There will be many people of the same age but different hair lengths and many people have the same hair length but a different age.

Explanation / Answer

For first situation,

The vehicle as a function of their registration number. Each vehicle has its unique registration number so its a function.

For second situation,

The age of person vs height. Each person with different age has different height. But the same height can be of person with different age group. For example lets take a person 20 years old has height 5.5ft and person 40 years old has also height 5.5ft. So here there is not unique height of person with different age group. So, its a relation not a function.
