Question

Suppose you have the graph of the function f(x). To obtain the graph of the function g(x) = 2 + f(x-3), you must do what to the graph of f(x)? a) Shift up 3 units b) Shift right 2 units c) Shift up 3 units and left 2 units d) Shift up 2 units and right 3 units e) Shift up 2 units and left 3 units f) Shift down 2 units and left 3 units The function h(t) = 5t+2t+50 describes the height of a ball t seconds after it has been thrown off a 50-meter-high cliff. At what time is the ball at its highest point? a) 7/5 seconds b) 3/7 seconds c) 4/5 seconds d) 1/5 seconds e) 5/4 seconds f) 1/7 seconds

Explanation / Answer

1) for getting f(x-3) from f(x) we need to shift graph right by 3 unit because value that we get in x =0 in f(x) now we will get at x =3 in f(x-3). and by adding 2 the garph simply sift up by 2 unit because each value of f(x) will be increased by 2

2) to get maximaum hight we will diffrentiate the h(t) and put h ' (t) = 0

so h'(t) = -10t+2 = 0 => t = 1/5
