Question

****I’m looking at question 38 only at the moment.
What’s troubling me is I found f(x+h), f(x+h)-f(x), and f(x+h)-f(x)/h. But they are saying in 38c “what is that where x does not equal zero.” What does that mean for my answer? I have my work posted as well.
Then in 38d, they say what is the value of f(x+h)-f(x)/h approaches as h approaches 0.
Can someone help clarify just what 38c and 38d want me to do and how? Thank you! 34. fayI 35, f(x)=11x 36, f(x)=JX In Exercises 37-48, finad (a) f(x + h), (b) f(x +h) - f(x), () f th)-) , where h * 0, and f(x + h)-f(x) (d) the value approaches as h 0. 3 38. f(x)=2x+4 37°f(x)=3x-2 39, f (x)=x2 41° f(x) = 2-x-x2 42, f(x) = 3x2 + 2x + 1 43, f (x)=- 40. f(x)=-x2 44. f(x) = x + 46, f (x)=2x 48. f(x)=2x-x3 x 3-5x x-3 47, f (x) = x3 49. Find (a) f(x + h)- f(x)

Explanation / Answer

Your both answer are correct in c they just posted that x not equal to zero means f(x+h)-f(x) = (3/2)h

And d the answer does not depend on h . So your answer when h approach to 0 will be same 3/2
