a) Give some instructions for weighing the backpacks. Include unit of measure, accuracy of measure, and type of scale.

b) Do you think each student asked will allow you to weigh his or her backpack?

c) Do you think telling students ahead of time that you are going to weigh their backpacks will make a difference in the weights?

Explanation / Answer

a) The variable weights of the backpacks is a quantitative variable and it should be continuous. so this is a ratio level measurement. The units that we can use Kilograms, for accuracy purpose we can allow it to two decimals.

b) No. This leads to some bias so not advisable to weigh his/her backpack. The units of measurement may be different when we allow them to weigh. Next they may remove or add some of the belongings at the time of weighing.

c) Yes. There is a chance that they may or may not include some of their personal belongings.
