Question
Below find data collected from nine high schools. Note that the unit of analysis in this study is high school and the statistical population consists of all high schools in a county. Each high school is identified by an id number so we keep the anonymity as part of the ethics of research. But we have data on five characteristics of each high school. Notice that what you see below is a small data set with five columns and nine rows (this is not a table). Using this dataset find the answers to the following questions. Questions: How many variables we have in this dataset? What is the sample size in this data set? What is the median for variable total enrollment? What is the mean for variable college bound? What is the median for variable most popular sport?Explanation / Answer
a)We have 5 variables in the data set namely 'Total enrollment' ,'Major ethnic group', '% of college bound','Most popular sport','Condition of college building'.
b)Sample size of the data set is 9.
c)Median of the variable 'Total enrollment' is 1223.
d)Mean for the variable '% of College bound' is 47.74..i.e approaximately 48. (**N.B Here the variable is'% of College bound')
Mean=Sum of products of two variables '% of College bound' and 'Total enrollment' / Sum of 'Total enrollment'
e)Here we can't find the median value for 'Most popular sport' as it is qualitative data but considering the frequency of the variable we can say that Baseball or Basketball can be considered as median.
