Question
Rewrite y = 2x - 7 using function notation so that the dependent quantity, defined as m, is a function of the independent quantity x. Then find the value of m(3.5). Function Notation: m(3.5) = Rewrite y = 4^x + 2 using function notation so that the dependent quantity, defined as q, is a function of the independent quantity x. Then find the value for q(4). Function Notation: q(4) = Rewrite y = 4x^2 - 2x + 1 using function notation so that the dependent quantity, defined as f, is a function of the independent quantity x. Then find the value for f(-3). Function Notation: = f(-3) =Explanation / Answer
(1)
y = 2x-7
Here independent variable x and we are asked to keep it same.
And the dependent variable is 'y' and we are asked to change this to 'm'.
So the equation becomes,
m = 2x - 7
(or)
m (x) = 2x - 7
Substitute x =3.5 on both sides here to get m(3.5)
m(3.5) = 2(3.5) - 7 = 7 - 7 = 0
So m(3.5) = 0.
