One day your neighbor stops by to borrow your stone and balance so he can weight his 40 lb stone to make sure it hasn't shrunk. It turns out. that his stone had shrunk and in his surprise he dropped your 40 lb stone and it broke into 4 pieces! But ho tolls you there is good news. With the 1 pieces and your balance you can now weigh any integer amount of lbs from 1 to 40 lbs. What are the sizes of the pieces that the stone broke into?Explanation / Answer
the four pieces are 1 , 3 , 9 , 27
There is no definite procedure to find it . just use you intuition
you can check it .
for suppose you need to weigh 1 grams .
then use 1 gram stone.
for suppose you need to weigh 2 grams .
then use 3gram stone on one side and 1 gram stone on the other side.
3-1 = 2
for suppose you need to weigh 3 grams .
then use 3 gram stone.
for suppose you need to weigh 4 grams .
then use 3gram and 1 gram stone on one side.
3+1 = 4
for suppose you need to weigh 5 grams .
then use 9 gram stone on one side and then use 3gram and 1 gram stone on another side.
9-3-1 = 5
similarly you can weigh any thing between 1 to 40
