They randomly selected some of the residence halls (dorms). A research assistant was sent to each of the selected dorms to ask all students residing there if they had received a flu shot. The information was combined from all the dorms surveyed to estimate the percentage of the residential student body who had been vaccinated.

In Cluster sampling, the total populations is divided into clusters(or groups) and a simple random sample of clusters is selected.

In the given case, the population is the students who live in the campus.

The clusters are resident halls(droms)

Simple random sample of droms i.e clusters are selected.

Therefre the sampling plan is cluster sampling.
