O A. Stratified sampling is used, O B. Simple random sampling is used, since the business is selecting from its customers O C. Convenience sampling is used, since the business is selecting from its customers that are easiest to reach. 0 D. Cluster sampling is used, since the population of customers is divided into groups and several groups are selected and all of their members sampled O E. Systematic sampling is used, since customers are selected at fixed intervals since the population of customers is divided into groups and a random sample is selected from each group at random, and all samples of 700 customers have an equal chance of being selected What potential sources of bias are present, if any? Select all that apply A. If there is a regular pattern to the customers, it is possible for the sample to not be representative B The wording of the question asked t the customers ma n uence her wa s a patic arespons esults woud no C. The sample consists only of customers that are easy to reach This sample may not be representative of the population D. There are no potential sources of bias. e sa, n ae

Explanation / Answer

1)

Answer: B) Simple random sampling

As said in the question, "Chosen at random, 700 customers at a computer repair shop are contacted and asked their opinions of the service they received."

Thus, no groups have been made, no intervals nor did they choose based on easiest to reach.

The sampling used was just simple and completely random.

2) Answer: A) and B)

A) This might just be a potential source of bias. Although the sampling was completely random and was not ordered or organized based on anything, there is a finite possibility that the 700 people randomly selected just happen to have some regular pattern in them and therefore, are not representative of the whole customer population on the average.

B) This statement is a potential bias as well. The customers are contacted personally and asked their opinion of the service. If the question is worded in a particular way, which may be courteous, stern, casual, etc. it might drive the customers towards a particular response and thus, the response recorded will not be representative of the customer's honest and true opinion, which is what the computer repair shop really wants.

Cheers!
