Gloria's mother has just had knee replacement surgery and cannot take care of Gloria's father, who has early-stage Alzheimer's disease. In addition to her own home responsibilities. Gloria must go to her parents' home to prepare meals and to provide care for them during the day. Gloria's sister sleeps in the parents' home during the night. a. Assess/Diagnose: How would you go about determining Gloria and John's individual stressors? How might you classify the stressors (anticipatory, physiological and/or psychosocial)? Discuss some possible manifestations of these stressors. b. Plan/Intervention: Discuss several means of intervention that may help them cope with their stress 2. Nursing school can be very stressful. It is important to find methods to cope with this type of stress early in your nursing academic life. a. 1Stress is a state produced by a change in the environment that is percieved as challenging,threatening or damaging to a person"s equilibrium .A stressor can upset the equilibrium.I.t exists in many forms and categories.it may be described as physical,physiological,or psychosocial .physical stressors include cold,heat and chemical agents.physiologic stress include pain and fatigue.In the case of Gloria and John both of them suffers from psychosocial stressors.Stressors have also been classified as day to day frustrations,major complex occurences involving large groups and stressors that occur less frequently and involve fewer people.The clinical manefestations of physiologic stress are it is a protective and adaptive mechanism to maintain the homeostatic balance of the body.When a stress response occurs,it triggers a series of neurologic and hormonal process to be activated within the brain and bodysystems.The duration and intensity of the stress can cause both short-term and long-term sideeffects.A stressor can interrupt the process of homeostasis to the point where adaptation to the stressor fails and a disease process results.

b The major role of the nurse is early identification of both physiologic and psychologic stressors .Both the patient and nurse should identify individual as well as environmental stressors and discuss strategies to decrease lifestyle stress ,with the ultimate goal being to create a healthy lifestyle .Some of the nursing interventions for this couple will be promoting a healthy lifestyle,Enhancing coping strategies,teaching relaxation techniques,educating about stress management,enhancing social support and finally recommending support and therapy groups.
