Question
25. A STAT 200 instructor is interested in whether there is any variation in the final exam grades between her two classes Data collected from the two classes are as follows: Section 1: n-28, -80, 1 16 Section 2: n2 = 25, X2 = 75, s,-12 Her null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis are: ic. Show all work; wri supporting work will receive no credit. Determine the P-value for this test. Show all work; writing the correct P-value, without supporting work, will receive no credit. Is there sufficient evidence to justify the rejection of Ho at the significance level of 0.052 Explain. (b) (c)Explanation / Answer
(a) Test statistic (F - value is the correct test statistic)
F = (s1/s2)2 = (16/12)2 = 1.7778
(b) Here as the n1 = 28 ; n2 = 25 so
dF1 = 27 ; dF2 = 24
P-value = Pr(F < 1.7778 ; 27; 24) = 0.0791
(c) Here as p- value is greater than 0.05 so we failed to reject the null hypothesis and conclude that varaince of both the classes are same.
