Question

Psy 280 Spring 2018 Put your name on the back of the last page. our statistical decision about the null hypothesis (part h), what is the only type of error we could make? ½ pt n. Please describe the four assumptions we make when we perform significance tests? 1 point Meau 5 Spoin.ql. f o. What would happen in this study if we adopted an alpha of 01, rather than.05? Would we rejectlor fail to reject the null hypothesis? What would happen if we used an alpha of 001? Again, would we make a different decision about the null hypothesis? In general, what is the effect of using a smaller alpha level on our likelihood of rejecting a nll hypothesis, assuming everything else stays the same? 1 point ll e galern o.ool , the u tle core will be grater e the rkical c 3.30. The nol will Le rejected

Explanation / Answer

There are two types of errors one can make regarding the null hypothesis:-

Type 1 error: - Type 1 error occurs when we incorrectly reject a true null hypothesis (i.e. we reject the null hypothesis when it should have been selected)

Type 2 error: - Type 2 error occurs when we incorrectly accept a false null hypothesis (i.e. we accept the null hypothesis when it should have been rejected)

Hence, if the null hypothesis has been accepted, we can end up making a type 2 error and vice versa.
