Question
A manufacturer of detergent claims that the contents of boxes sold weigh on average at least 32 ounces. The distribution of weight is known to be normal, with a standard deviation of 0.5 ounces. A random sample of 25 boxes yielded a sample mean weight of 31.28 ounces. Test at the 1% significance level the null hypothesis that the population mean weight is at least 32 ounces. B. Ho: Hs 32 Hi: > 32 MD. HGH 32 H1 : O c. Reject Ho if./ Determine the appropriate value(s) of-4.4 or ±4/2 (Round to two decimal places as needed. Use a comma to separate answers as needed.)Explanation / Answer
Solution-
Here in order to calculate the appropriate values of - Z0.01 , we have to use normal tables -
= -2.326
Now Z score = (31.28 - 32 )/ ( 0.1/5)
= -7.2
As z scores < critical value, null hypothesis is rejected at 1% level of significance.
