Question

How Accurate are Student Perceptions?

Students in the ACHA–NCHA survey were asked two questions about alcohol use, one about their own personal consumption of alcohol and one about their perception of other students’ consumption of alcohol. Figure (a) shows side-by-side bar charts for responses to the question ‘‘The last time you ‘partied’/socialized, how many drinks of alcohol did you have?” while figure (b) shows side-by-side bar charts for responses to the question ‘‘How many drinks of alcohol do you think the typical student at your school had the last time he/she ‘partied’/socialized?”

Explanation / Answer

Here is the R code from which you can plot it,

######################################################

### Responces to the question

#Question 1- ‘‘The last time you ‘partied’/socialized, how many drinks of alcohol did you have?”

Ans = rnorm(50,0,1)

Ans_1 = c()

for(i in 1:50) Ans_1[i] = ifelse(Ans[i] < 0, 0,1)

#Question 2- '‘How many drinks of alcohol do you think the typical student at your school had the last time he/she ‘partied’/socialized?”

Ans = rnorm(50,0,1)

Ans_2 = c()

for(i in 1:50) Ans_2[i] = ifelse(Ans[i] < 0, 0,1)

## Making Table

t = table(Ans_1, Ans_2, dnn=c("Question_1_Ans", "Question_2_Ans"))

addmargins(t)

barplot(t, beside=T, col=c("aquamarine3","coral"),main="Responce_side-by-side bar chart")
