Point estimation and interval estimation is used to estimate the population parameter.
Point estimates are a particular value of the population parameter whereas interval estimation gives a range of values (that is an interval) which is most likely to contain the population parameter.
Confidence interval are frequently used as interval estimates. They are randam two sided intervals that are most likely to contain the population parameter.
The point estimates give the best guess about the population parameter and the interval estimates give a measure of accuracy of the point estimate by providing an interval containing the plausible values. This interval estimation can be done by using confidence intervals.
