Question

Answer the following questions using the relevant table or Excel when necessary. Then place your answers in the yellow highlighted cells when necessary A sample of 20 items provides a sa ple standard deviation of 11 Test the following hypotheses using : . what s your condus on? Use both the-a e approach and the critica value approach. Ho: ^2 S 50 Ha: ^2 > 50 Please use Excel to answer the following questions: p-value approach: p-value: Please use 4 decimals in your answer Conclusion: Critical value approach: 05 Conclusion:

Explanation / Answer

n = 20

s = 11

At = 0.05, we need to test the following hypothesis-

Ho: ^2 <= 50

H1: ^2 > 50

2 test using P-value and Critical value approach-

P-Value:

2 = (n-1)* (s/)^2

= 19* (121/50) = 45.98

For this value of Chi-Square and 19 df, P-value = 0.000499

This can be obtained using the function =CHISQ.DIST.RT(45.98,19)

Where 2 = 45.98 and df = 19

Conclusion: p<

So, we can reject the null hypothesis

Critical-Value approach:

The Critical value can be found out using the function =CHISQ.INV(0.95,19)

where 0.95 is the probability and 19 is the df

Now, as per the above calculations,

2 = 45.98

As per the function,  2 critical = 30.14

2 > 2 critical

So, as per the rule, reject the null hypothesis
