Why does the National Safety Council give us rates instead of num- bers of visits? b. For which ages are the males more likely than the females to have an ER visit for an injury? For which ages are the men and women simi lar? For which ages do the women have more visits? ER Injuries Male Female 25 20 a 15 under 15 15-24 25-44 45-64 65-7475+ AgeExplanation / Answer
2.44
(a) NSC gives us rate because it is better to categorize each group as per rate instead using number of visits. As in rate, the denominator is number of people in that group so that will equalise all the groups as we know that there is significant difference in population size of each group.
(b) For the ages 0 -44 or less than 44 year age group, it is more likely for males to go more for ER visit for an injury. for the ages 45 - 64 and 65-74 , there is similar rate for ER visit. For age groupgreater than 74 years, women have more visits.
